Sale of a painting

How does a sale painting work?

Usually, a sale of a painting is directly at a salon or gallery exhibition, but today, for various technical and economic reasons, it is mainly sold in the artist’s studio.

To begin with, the future buyer or buyers make a selection of the paintings that inspire them on the Nadia Vuillaume website.

They then contact her either by e-mail: nadiavuillaume@gmail.com or directly by telephone on +33 (0)6.86.00.58.73.

From then on, an appointment is made so that buyers can come and discover the works selected, talk to the artist and leave with the painting of their choice.

As future buyers, how should you prepare for your meeting with the artist?

First, browse the Nadia Vuillaume website under the heading “Buy an original”.

Make an initial selection.

Either you’ve fallen in love and that’s great, or you’re hesitating between several paintings. Make a selection of 4 or 5 paintings.

Next, look at where you want to install your future acquisition in your home. It’s important to check that the size of the painting is compatible with the space you’ve chosen.

Then return to your selection to check that it is compatible with the space you have reserved for it. A second look will help you refine your choices.

The last thing you need to know is your budget. How much money do you have available for this purchase?

Now all you have to do is contact the artist to arrange a meeting.

How sale of a painting proceeding :

The meeting is always a pleasant moment of exchange where I open the doors to my creative space. It’s also a privileged moment because no one else but me has access to it.

It’s a time for sharing, a time for meeting new people that I really enjoy.

For my part, I would have known beforehand who the future buyers were, how much space they had available for hanging their work and what their budget was.

On the big day, I set up the selected paintings so that visitors can see them in full view. They will have plenty of time to ask me any questions they may have. I’ll give them a moment of privacy so that they can talk to each other calmly and quietly.

Once the choice has been made, we move on to the negotiations.

The painting is delivered in protective packaging. I provide an invoice, a quotation certificate and a certificate of authenticity.

For my archives, I ask my clients to send me a souvenir photo of the painting(s) they have purchased, once installed in their home.

I look forward to meeting you,

Nadia Vuillaume, Painter

Staying true !

The process of creation :

The process of creation, in the artist, is permanent. But he must staying true to his artistic commitments.
What damages this creative process is an awareness that barriers are being put in front of him. Among other things, the fear that many of his creations will remain asleep in the backroom. Whereas the ultimate goal of creation is precisely the exposure to the public and especially its acquisition.

The work:

A work is born in the hands of the artist, but its future is elsewhere. His work consists in realizing a unique, original, durable work… He shapes it, sublimates it, makes it grow to take it towards its destiny. And its destiny is not to sleep in a storeroom, but to exist far away from him, in an elsewhere.
It will be sublimated in the eyes of its purchaser, but also in his environment. It is also in this elsewhere that its value will continue to increase.

Questioning:

In his life, the artist is never serene. He is certainly even less so in our time when the work of art becomes a product to be consumed.
As a creator, I wonder about what is expected of my work. How can I offer, to my public, paintings at low prices, while ensuring their originality, their authenticity?
If I make “consumable”, therefore a product – because at this stage there is no longer any question of talking about unique and original creation – it will no longer be possible to work on the unique, original and thoughtful work over the long term. Just as making digital copies of my paintings is absolutely not an option, as far as I am concerned. That would risk to make me lose my credibility even my quotation until my status of creative artist. But even more, I would lose my honor.

What is the solution?

Should I completely rethink my profession as a painter, or even give it up?
Should I abandon my creative ideal? What the original work represents to me? My values as a creator?

How to keep your ethics:

After several months of wandering and questioning, I remain convinced that an artist must remain faithful to his artistic commitments.

  • To allow the acquisition, at moderate prices, of unique paintings, without having recourse to digital reproduction, I created “The workshop background” with sketches, previous works and test canvases.
  • In order to reassure the future buyer, I voluntarily gave access to the value to quotation. Thanks to the quotation, the customer has the official insurance of valuation of the work in case of: disaster, damage, theft for the insurances. The quotation allows to position and to know the place of the artist in the market of the Art, but it is above all a pledge of quality towards the buyer. The quotation value is not the selling price!
  • By not fixing any selling price, I give you the possibility to make me a well-considered offer between your financial possibilities and your favorites. Do not hesitate to contact me either via my website or directly by phone at : +33 (0)6.86.00.58.73.

Art for all

With a wide range of prices and original works, the contemporary painter Nadia Vuillaume accompanies you in your acquisition. She makes art accessible for all.

Contrary to past centuries, owning a work of art is no longer reserved only for a small group of privileged people.

Acquiring, for oneself or for a third person, an original work of art is part of a personal process. It is a will to buy a singular piece, handmade and possessing a signature. There is in this approach a notion of aesthetic pleasure and cultural interest. Moreover, this year 2020 will have greatly challenged the art world. Artists need everyone’s support. Beyond the pecuniary aspect, the interest of creation itself is at stake. Artists can only survive thanks to you!

Do you also want to make accessible art for all? You wish to offer a painting for an exceptional occasion (birthday, wedding, retirement…). Or just for fun, but you don’t know which work to choose? Here is what I propose to you:

  • First option, you can contact me ! So that I can help you in your choice. But so I propose you a selection of paintings corresponding to your criteria.
  • Second option, you can offer a gift card for the acquisition of a personalized painting. Knowing that the average price of a small format (example: 12’’ x 16’’) is 300 €.

Do not hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to help you in your approach to acquire one of my oil paintings, in the rules of the art.
